Guns in America

Hello - the assigment for today is, to answer some questions about a debate "show" we have been seeing in school.

1. The moderator Lisa's first question to the members of the debate is: Why do people own guns?
Write down what Andrea, Maxwell, and Jessica believe is the reason for this.

Andrea thinks people in America have guns for hunting, sport and stuff like that, and of course for protection and violence. Maxwell says he would like to add two more reasons to own a gun: Having a small penis and fear. He thinks insecure men prefer to have a gun to fell more save and macho. Jessica agrees with Maxwell. She thinks many women own guns because they are afraid to be attacked.

2. Jessica says that many Americans want to have a gun because of the media and films. Do you agree with Jessica? Why? Why not?

I don’t agree with Jessica. I don’t think having a gun is cool. Guns are serious things, you don’t just have because they use them it in the movies.

3. Rhajik talks a lot about the military when he is talking about guns. What does he say about the military and their need and use of guns?

- He thinks guns are very important to the military. It’s an easy way to kill, and if there were no guns in the military, they had to kill with their hands, and that’s not an easy way to kill.

4. Maxwell names some facts about guns. Name at least one of them. Comment on the fact.

 - Over 1, 5 million guns are bought and sold every year in America. That’s a lot of guns! I know there lives many people in America, but 1, 5 million guns is way too many! The program is from 1993 – that means since the program got recorded, over 25, 5 million guns have been bought and sold in America.  That’s insane to think about!

5. Maxwell says that the reason why criminals have guns is because the citizens are armed. Do you think that is right? How do you think it is in Denmark?

- I think it’s hard to believe if it’s right. I don’t think that many citizens are armed in Denmark – I don’t really know about America. Denmark seems peaceful, so I don’t think that’s the reason why the criminals own guns.

6. What does Andrea think should be changed in America's gun law?
- I couldn't find any good answer to this question (:

7. Rhajik says that power should be returned to the people, the individual. It should be totally legal to own guns. No one should rule. We should be responsible for our own lives. What do you think about this?
 - In some of it, I agree. People should be allowed to control their own life – but you can control your life without guns! I don’t agree in that part, when he says that no one should rule. I think, if no one was taking a little more responsibility in this world, the world would be a mess, but that’s just my opinion.

8. In the end of the debate, all the debate members are asked to say in short what they think about guns. Choose at least two of the members and write down their opinion.

 - Andrea is against guns! She doesn’t want to remove guns completely, but that’s only because it doesn’t seem realistic. But she defiantly thinks the number of guns in America should be reduced.  Jessica is a little agrees with Andrea. She also thinks, you should learn about guns and their consequences in School.

9. Lisa ends the debate by giving the Americans an advice about guns. What does she say?

 - Lisa says in the end “If you ever decide to use a gun, just think about it before you let you passions get in the way” – and that is true :)

10. Who do you agree with the most of the five members of the debate and why?
 - The person I agree the most with is Maxwell. He is against guns and so am I. He seems relaxed and also serious in the i
nterview and that’s how I think you should handle it, when you talk about guns. It’s unnecessary to be too serious about the subject, because the guns just can’t disappear like that. But still, guns are dangerous things so care about guns!
