Bowling for columbine

Hello :)
A couple weeks ago, my class saw a movie called "Bowling for columbine" which involved guns and weapons. Unfortunately I was on vacation while they saw the movie, so I've only seen 25 minutes of the movie.
But here's a few things from the movie, I find strange..

1. The scene where Michael Moore opens a bank account, and gets a free gun.
- What? Open an account and get a gun? What type of bank is that? That's wrong. I know you some places can get some free stuff if you become a member... but a gun? And the person who helped Michael creating the account told him, the bank has a lot of weapons you can choose between. I'm chocked! That's very unnecersary.

2. The way, many people think it's allright to have a gun.
- In the beginning of the movie, people are acting like having a gun is a norm. And maybe it is for them. But I still can't  imagine a society where everyone has a gun. But I guess if you grew up such a place, you would be use to it.

As you can hear, I am against guns for privat use.. exept for hunting, or another kind of hobby :-)

Answers to "Questions about Alma"

I've answerd 4 questions about Alma.

http://engelskhadbjergskole.blogspot.com/2010/10/your-own-questions-about-alma.html

My answers

1 Why do you think Alma thought she could not defend herself without a gun?

-  I think the reason why Alma felt she couldn’t live without a gun, is that Alma felt unsecure where she’d grew up. She knew a lot of people who got shot, and I think she was afraid of the thought, that she could end like them.

2 What do you think made Alma move north to her family in Massachusetts?

-  I think she decided to move, because of the bad environment she lived in and because she missed her family.

3 What do you think turned Alma against guns, when she had had one herself all this time?

-  I think Alma knew, having a gun was wrong the whole time. Maybe having a gun wasn’t an option where Alma grew up. Maybe a gun was necessary to protect yourself. But Alma got over it when she got older, and today she is totally against guns! I’m glad Alma turned out that way.

4. Why do you think Alma never really have voted before now?

- I’m not sure why. Maybe she wanted to be sure, before she decided who she wanted to support.

Guns in America

Hello - the assigment for today is, to answer some questions about a debate "show" we have been seeing in school.

1. The moderator Lisa's first question to the members of the debate is: Why do people own guns?
Write down what Andrea, Maxwell, and Jessica believe is the reason for this.

Andrea thinks people in America have guns for hunting, sport and stuff like that, and of course for protection and violence. Maxwell says he would like to add two more reasons to own a gun: Having a small penis and fear. He thinks insecure men prefer to have a gun to fell more save and macho. Jessica agrees with Maxwell. She thinks many women own guns because they are afraid to be attacked.

2. Jessica says that many Americans want to have a gun because of the media and films. Do you agree with Jessica? Why? Why not?

I don’t agree with Jessica. I don’t think having a gun is cool. Guns are serious things, you don’t just have because they use them it in the movies.

3. Rhajik talks a lot about the military when he is talking about guns. What does he say about the military and their need and use of guns?

- He thinks guns are very important to the military. It’s an easy way to kill, and if there were no guns in the military, they had to kill with their hands, and that’s not an easy way to kill.

4. Maxwell names some facts about guns. Name at least one of them. Comment on the fact.

 - Over 1, 5 million guns are bought and sold every year in America. That’s a lot of guns! I know there lives many people in America, but 1, 5 million guns is way too many! The program is from 1993 – that means since the program got recorded, over 25, 5 million guns have been bought and sold in America.  That’s insane to think about!

5. Maxwell says that the reason why criminals have guns is because the citizens are armed. Do you think that is right? How do you think it is in Denmark?

- I think it’s hard to believe if it’s right. I don’t think that many citizens are armed in Denmark – I don’t really know about America. Denmark seems peaceful, so I don’t think that’s the reason why the criminals own guns.

6. What does Andrea think should be changed in America's gun law?
- I couldn't find any good answer to this question (:

7. Rhajik says that power should be returned to the people, the individual. It should be totally legal to own guns. No one should rule. We should be responsible for our own lives. What do you think about this?
 - In some of it, I agree. People should be allowed to control their own life – but you can control your life without guns! I don’t agree in that part, when he says that no one should rule. I think, if no one was taking a little more responsibility in this world, the world would be a mess, but that’s just my opinion.

8. In the end of the debate, all the debate members are asked to say in short what they think about guns. Choose at least two of the members and write down their opinion.

 - Andrea is against guns! She doesn’t want to remove guns completely, but that’s only because it doesn’t seem realistic. But she defiantly thinks the number of guns in America should be reduced.  Jessica is a little agrees with Andrea. She also thinks, you should learn about guns and their consequences in School.

9. Lisa ends the debate by giving the Americans an advice about guns. What does she say?

 - Lisa says in the end “If you ever decide to use a gun, just think about it before you let you passions get in the way” – and that is true :)

10. Who do you agree with the most of the five members of the debate and why?
 - The person I agree the most with is Maxwell. He is against guns and so am I. He seems relaxed and also serious in the i
nterview and that’s how I think you should handle it, when you talk about guns. It’s unnecessary to be too serious about the subject, because the guns just can’t disappear like that. But still, guns are dangerous things so care about guns!

Rules for teenagers.

Something I find weird is that “rules for teenagers” are different all around the world! In Denmark you can buy alcohol when you are 16 years old – in the United States you have to wait until your 21 years old. And it’s the same when it comes to driving a vehicle. In California you can get your license on your 16th birthday – in Denmark you have to wait until your 18th birthday. I don’t understand why it isn’t the same age in every country!

But what age should be the “right age”? I think I would pick the same ages as in Denmark – they seem fair. What do YOU think? If you could decide what age it should be legal to by alcohol and drive, what age would you pick? Leave a comment bellow, and let me know :)

Teenagers... Who are we?!

Hello everyone :)

My subject for today is "Teenagers" because... well, I couldn't find any better subject, and since I am a teenager, I thought I would write about what "being a teenager" means.

If you didn’t already know, teenagers are very cool people – but also very strange people! Many people thinks teenagers only are young people who drinks, yells at their parents, sleeps too much, eats too much unhealthy food and listen to very loud music in their rooms. But that’s what teenagers do! – Okay, maybe not all of us, but I’m sure, if you are a teenager, you’ve tried one of these thing – at least once :)

When you are a teenager, life can be very confusing! I know it, because I’ve tried it! – I’m a 15 year old girl, and there are still a lot of things I don’t get… for example teenage boys! But then I found this video, and I feel, that I am now a little closer to understand teenage boys!

Understanding teenage boys

.. Okay, maybe not :P
